This season, for the first time, the 12 globe-trotting teams will begin the race outside of the United States, traveling to Munich, Germany for the starting line. The show also visits the ancient city of Petra, in Jordan, where teams will ride a train and experience a scene reminiscent of the 1963 Oscar-winning film "Lawrence of Arabia," perform a Jordanian folk dance and learn the Arabic alphabet. Also, for the first time in THE AMAZING RACE history, there will be no non-elimination legs.
With one team being eliminated at the end of every leg, it will be one of the most grueling races in the show's history and teams will be in for a surprise when host Phil Keoghan teases a game-changing element in the first leg of the race. Other locations that teams will travel to include Austria, Italy, France, Spain, Iceland and Nashville, where the first team to cross the final finish line will be crowned the winner of THE AMAZING RACE and the $1 million prize.
The The Amazing Race
The fun, fast-paced series allows viewers to see the world through the eyes of the race and learn more about cultures and local customs in places that aren't always well-known vacation destinations. But, like most reality competitions, The Amazing Race has a fair share of petty behavior, thanks to the stresses of the many unusual and sometimes-difficult circumstances the contestants find themselves in. Adding to the tension are the occasional ethical questions raised about the teams helping (or not helping) one another.
The way the individual pairs, who are from all walks of life, support each other throughout the race ranges from heartwarming to frustrating, especially when they begin to take out their stress on each other. Meanwhile, some cast members aren't always respectful of the international communities or their traditional customs. However, these moments are usually quick and usually overshadowed by the excitement of the journey. Overall, it's an entertaining show that offers an amazing look at the world around us and adventures that most people only dream about.

NS: Nurse and diabetes educator Carolyn Robertson was amazing with my planning. She gave me so many tips and tricks. She helped me navigate time zones and even pack, suggesting I put pump supplies in ziplock bags instead of boxes to save room. She suggested I combine bottles of test strips to save space. She also suggested that I carry glucose sources that also replenished electrolytes to battle not only low blood sugars, but also dehydration.
NS: For the final leg of the race, we had to walk a plank off of a crane, and bungee to a raft floating below. It was terrifying! I have an extreme fear of heights. For me, to destress, the best thing to do is deep breathing and visualization. I kept closing my eyes, telling myself I was somewhere peaceful, and taking slow deep breaths. This helped a little, but I was still completely terrified!
